That's Kim Geldenhuys and Jan in the top pic setting up the reveal shot. Below, the whole shebang: chopper, landspeed beast, Beemer, drivers ... it was a busy four days. Ironically the shoot had been delayed due to rain ... in a part of South Africa that had not seen a drop for over five years! (Luckily the drought returned for our second attempt :-)

* Side note: the sound on this commercial was also quite something. I worked with the guy who did the SFX on the Volvo 'Hurricane' TV ad ... well, that's what he said anyway.
He kept falling asleep on the shoot, and
had to be woken up just in time to dangle a mic out the back-door of the M5 doing an undisclosed amount of miles an hour! We also recorded live Formula 1 cars and mixed in some jet fighters, rockets, gun-shots and bombs for good measure! And, although I swore I'd never use opera in another BMW ad ... I did. But not before I had distorted it within an inch of its life.
